I have not seen Infinity War, because I was supposed to go with the family when I had the heart attack. I caught up with two key movies I had missed, Dr. Strange and Black Panther.
I went into Dr. Strange with low expectations, because I never liked the comics when I was a kid. But I found the movie to be a lot of fun, and I thought the special effects were very good. I thought Tilda Swinton was weird casting and I did not like her in this, but overall I liked the movie.
With Black Panther, my expectations were high because I had heard it was good. I was very disappointed. I thought the CGI was bad and overused, and a lot of the movie looked like a video game. I found the fake generic “African” accents off-putting. My son said that the accents reminded him of “that old Eddie Murphy movie” (Coming to America). This was not a favorable comparison. I thought the fight scenes and action sequences and were poorly put together, and the CGI made it look like a cartoon. We want our action stars sexy now, so we animate them when they can’t fight or do stunts. I thought it was very mediocre.
My favorite Marvel movie remains Captain America: Winter Soldier, and this was nowhere close.

Well, this seems like a thoughtful take on Black Panther. I still want to see it at some point, but I felt like I was missing out when I didn’t see it in the first two weeks. I can imagine that the complaints that you have would be mine as well.

Whats your feeling on Thor Ragnarok? Winter Soldier is still the best overall MCU movie but Ragnarok is a very close second if not tied. It is a different style, more comedic MCU movie, but hits on all of the levels
Also if you havent seen it, its key to what happens at the beginning of Infinity War.

I loved both of those movies. I’m ridiculously easy to please. Don’t take any movie recommendations from me.

HOW DARE YOU!
Honestly though, the CGI was bad.
But they didn’t just come up with a fake
African accent randomly without the research.
And despite my Kinja handle I rate Winter Soldier and Thor Ragnarok higher among the non-Avengers movies.

I had no experience with Dr Strange and no expectations. I enjoyed it mostly because of the dialogue. And the little bits of comedy pulled it together.

I liked both dr. strange and black panther. Dr. Strange was a bit better put together - maybe better produced and acted, and I have a man crush on Benedict Cuberbatch.
I still really enjoyed black panther and I liked the fact that whatever was going to happen would not result in the end of the world as we know it like so many other marvel films.
